Rio 2016 Cultural Olympiad field research

Added on Wednesday, July 29th, 2015

ICC Head of Research, Beatriz García, is currently conducting field research in Rio de Janeiro as part of her assessment of the cultural legacy of next year’s eagerly anticipated Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Whilst in Rio, Dr. García will be conducting a series of interviews and meetings with key stakeholders that focus on the preparations being made for the 2016 Cultural Olympiad, with these encounters set to consider how the city can best capitalise on the cultural legacy of its year as Games host.

With the city celebrating ‘one-year-to-go’ to the Games Opening Ceremony and launching its official cultural narrative, Dr. García will also be in attendance for key city events such as the ‘Olympic Games plan’ press launch, which will be attended by the Mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, the President of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, and the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach.

Dr. García has conducted similar research at nine previous Olympic host cities, during both Summer and Winter editions, including a groundbreaking evaluation of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
