Crossing Boundaries is led by the ICC’s Head of Research Kerry Wilson, as part of a wider programme of research exploring the role and value of cultural sectors and organisations in responding and contributing to social policy and public health agendas in the UK. Research team members include:
Dr Rafaela Ganga – ICC Research Associate
Rafaela joined the ICC in September 2016 as a full-time Research Associate on the Crossing Boundaries project. Rafaela specialises in museum education policy and practice, having conducted doctoral research (awarded 2013) on the sociology of cultural education with Tate Liverpool, Šiuolaikinio Meno Centras and Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art. Her most recent academic appointment was as a senior researcher at the University of Porto, where she led numerous projects connected to cultural heritage, identity and education. Rafaela is also a practising curator with professional experience of arts management and cultural programming.

Gayle Whelan – ICC Research Fellow
Gayle joined the ICC in March 2014 as lead researcher on the Joining the Dots research programme, investigating the social and economic value of creative interventions in mental health care with research partners Mersey Care NHS Trust. Gayle specialises in community asset mapping and social value methodologies, including social return on investment (SROI). Gayle subsequently leads on WP3 of the Crossing Boundaries project, having conducted SROI research as part of two previous House of Memories evaluation studies.
