The Art of Major Events

This event is on 19 January 2015 9:00am

Dr Beatriz Garcia, ICC Head of Research, will be attending the Art of Major Events conference, which is being organised by Culture at King’s, hosted by Deloitte and held in partnership with the British Council. The day will bring together speakers and leaders from London 2012, Glasgow 2014, Rio 2016, Hull Capital of Culture 2017 and Tokyo 2020 to explore how best to harness the knowledge and expertise gained from staging major events. Confirmed speakers include Dame Tessa Jowell, Mario Andrada (Director of Communications for Rio 2016) and Bridget McConnell (Chief Executive of Glasgow Life). With an invited audience of senior stakeholders, this one-day conference will explore the following themes:

  • Maintaining the vision and cohesion from bidding to delivery and legacy
  • Meeting the operational challenges of delivering a multi-agency event
  • Delivering value to sponsors and funders and maximising inward investment
  • Using communications to build an engaged community

The conference builds on the work of Culture at King’s and its programme of cultural enquiries, the first of which explored the added value culture can bring to major events. This is a unique opportunity to share learning; explore best practice, challenges and opportunities in an informal and open forum; and to ensure we capitalise on the legacy of major events like London 2012.
