Partnership for Progress on the Digital Divide Conference 2015

This event is on 21 October 2015 1:30pm

Director of the ICC, Simeon Yates, will be attending the 2015 Partnership for Progress on the Digital Divide (PPDD) Conference, which will be held this year at Arizona State University’s School of Public Affairs. Following the success of the PPDD 2014/Seattle Preconference,  the decision was taken to sponsor a biennial Conference similar in structure and purpose to the 2014 Preconference, with the aim of creating a powerful critical mass of high-quality scholarship that can serve as a deep resource and driver of future innovation.

It is hoped that the conference will provide a permanent home where cutting-edge scholarship on the digital divide can be written, shared, commented upon, and published, and where ideas on policy and practice are envisioned, formulated, explored, and discussed.

Artists in Residence and Cultural Intermediation

This event is on 22 October 2015 2:30pm

This half-day seminar, which is being organised by ICC Head of Research, Kerry Wilson, will explore contemporary practice in artists in residence programmes. Participants will hear from a range of artists and commissioners currently engaged in the field, including their perspectives on the role of artists in residence as cultural intermediaries in different social, environmental and global contexts.

The seminar will be led by Yvette Vaughan Jones, drawing upon a rich portfolio of work in this area by Visiting Arts. Through discussions, participants will debate and shape the future direction of artists in residence programmes in light of contemporary policy drivers and influential factors including social networks, digital engagement and creativity, community participation, cross-sector collaborative working and the evaluation and articulation of cultural value.

Guest speakers will include colleagues from Grizedale Arts, Cumbria; Largo Residencias, Lisbon; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; Mersey Care NHS Trust and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. Following presentations from guest speakers, Yvette will lead a facilitated discussion reflecting upon her experiences as Chair of the EU Working Group on Artists’ Residencies, which published its Policy Handbook in December 2014.

The seminar will run from 2.30-5.00pm – click here for agenda – and will be followed by a drinks reception between 5.30-6.30pm. Attendance is free and can be booked here.

Artists in Residence and Cultural Intermediation is part of a series of events linked to the AHRC-funded Cultural Intermediation and the Creative Urban Economy research project led by Dr Phil Jones at the University of Birmingham.
