UCLG Culture Summit 2017

This event is on 10 May 2017

This May, ICC Director, Dr. Beatriz García, will be attending the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Culture Summit, where she will speak at the plenary session on evaluation of cultural impact.

Held this year in Jeju, the Culture Summit is the main global meeting point for cities, local governments and other stakeholders that are committed to the effective implementation of policies and programmes on culture and sustainability. Entitled “Commitments and Actions for Culture in Sustainable Cities”, the second Culture Summit of UCLG aims to develop and reinforce messages on the role of culture in sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on the importance of cities and local spaces.

The first summit, which took place in Bilbao in 2015, resulted in the Culture 21: Actions: a practical toolkit which enables local governments, civil society activists and other relevant stakeholders to evaluate, implement and exchange knowledge on how to fully integrate culture in local sustainable development. Dr. García has been involved, during the piloting of this toolkit, as an expert adviser to two of the European pilot cities, Galway (Ireland) and Swansea (Wales).
