Prisoners’ Education Trust: Academic Symposium 2018

This event is on 20 April 2018 9:30am

The Prisoners’ Education Trust is hosting its fifth annual Academic Symposium, in partnership with the University of Westminster, in April 2018. As Governors take greater control of prison education budgets later this year, it is a crucial time to bring together academics, practitioners, governors, learners and policy-makers to discuss how to meet the challenges and opportunities of this new landscape. In particular, symposium delegates will explore the implications of the new Ministry of Justice definition of prison education:

Activities that give individuals the skills they need to unlock their potential, gain employment and become assets to their communities. It should also build social capital and improve the well-being of prisoners during their sentences.”

The ICC’s Head of Research Kerry Wilson will be participating in the symposium, through networks developed via her research on prison libraries as part of the Instrumental Values study, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council 2017-19.
