European Conference on Educational Research

This summer, ICC Research Associate, Dr Rafaela Neiva Ganga, will be attending The European Conference on Educational Research (ECER): Reforming Education and the Imperative of Constant Change: Ambivalent roles of policy and educational research, where she will deliver a presentation on the House of Memories informal carers model and its impact on carers’ subjective wellbeing.

ECER, the annual conference held by the European Educational Research Association (EERA), welcomes over 2,500 scholars each year, representing views and research traditions from all parts of Europe. The aim of the ECER is to create an inclusive platform for initiating, reporting, discussing and promoting high quality educational research. ECER features a high number of sessions by the association’s 32 research networks, as well as many semi-plenaries and plenaries, and the Emerging Researchers’ Group.

In her presentation to the Research on Arts Education network, Rafaela will discuss findings from the Crossing Boundaries research programme, focusing on the empirical understanding of the impact of House of Memories Family Carers’ Awareness Day across four museums on the subjective wellbeing of 66 participating dementia caregivers and the subsequent perception of their ‘culture of care’.

House of Memories is a museums-led dementia awareness-training programme focused on the reminiscence potential of museum collections. Created by National Museums Liverpool (NML) in 2012 with funding from the Department of Health, it provides dementia carers with resources to support people in living well with the condition.
