(Un)Making Europe: Capitalism, Solidarities, Subjectivities

This event is on 29 August 2017

This summer, ICC Research Associate, Dr Rafaela Neiva Ganga, will be attending (Un)Making Europe: Capitalism, Solidarities, Subjectivities: The 13th Conference of the European Sociological Association (ESA), where she will deliver a presentation on the House of Memories national partnership on dementia care, entitled: From Liverpool with Memory. House of Memories’ national partnerships on dementia care – a critical analysis.

Held once every two years, the 13th ESA conference will feature around 700 sessions by the association’s 37 research networks, as well as research streams, many semi-plenaries and plenaries. This year’s Research Network of Sociology of Arts is dedicating a panel to social and cognitive effects of the arts that will address issues related to aesthetic experience, art for social transformation, arts in communities, and arts as a part of urban culture. Within this particular panel, in her presentation, Rafaela will discuss findings from the Crossing Boundaries research programme: an analysis of House of Memories’ transferability and adaptability, and of the impact of the existing model on National Museums Liverpool’s national partners.

House of Memories is a museums-led dementia awareness training programme focused on the reminiscence potential of museum collections. Created by National Museums Liverpool (NML) in 2012 with funding from the Department of Health, it provides dementia carers with resources to support people in living well with the condition.
